Thanks for the comment on the backgrounds btw; they often take a while to get right and my concern is that the detail may ultimately detract from image clarity as a whole.

Frankly I'm still trying to find a balance where I can create them in a reasonable time-frame and make stronger scenes with less needless detail. At least, that is my personal paranoia XD

Actually I think you are right. I know an artist who simply makes outlines of buildings, trees etc, and then fills them with a pastel toned gradient to speed up the background process. It is effective and it works though!
